California Court Rules San Diego Sex Offender Law Unconstitutional
In their Introduction to the book the authors say, in referring to County Supervisor Dianne Jacob, District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and many others and their reaction to brutal crimes against children and the extreme repressive laws enacted called Designer Sex Laws, "Apparently these leaders had failed to learn a key lesson from earlier tragedies – that reacting to a crime with more repressive laws does not solve the problem – it actually makes it worse."
Later in the Introduction the authors write:
"While Elaine Halleck's portion of the tale shows how policies of the criminal justice system might exile one person from any sustaining contact with his community and from any protection by civilizing principles that have evolved over the centuries, Alex Landon's non-fiction sections show how these policies have had severe effects on many other people and on the community at large. The ruinous expense of such policies is an important point in many of Landon's chapters."
In a Review of A Parallel Universe by Attorney Thomas Gayton he says, "... And the book may be generally challenging because so many people have been deceived by fear-mongering politicians to believe that designer sex laws (Megan's Law, Jessica's Law, Chelsea's law, etc.) actually protect children. So, parents and children suffer a false sense of security, while convicted people live in a parallel universe where they are not protected by principles that others take for granted."
I emailed Alex and Elaine when I saw the news article. "Alex and Elaine, this seems like a local (San Diego County only) but positive move to redress the extremes of some of these laws (mentioned in A Parallel Universe)."

It is a good case. Right now it applies to San Diego County, but hopefully it will be given statewide affect. It addresses one of the problems with Jessica's Law which is addressed in our book. All the best.
